Dyeing Yarn With East Egg Dyes

Greetings! My Daughter and I dyed yarn with East Egg dyes again. I will share the pictures below

Gather your materials. We had some leftover bottes from a tie dye project several years ago and some cheep dollar store dye kits work great. The yarn is Knit Picks Bare Stroll Fingering Weight Yarn.

Soak the yarn with cold water and 1/8th cup of vinegar for about 30 minutes

Mix the dye tablets with 1 teaspoon vinegar and fill bottle with hot tap water AFTER the vinegar has dissolved the tablet

I was really disappointed that we didn’t get a shade of purple and the pink was really lack luster. However, we ended up with two shades of blue that were really pretty.

To heat set the dye add about 6 cups of water to the bottom of the pan and then cook it on the stove top until it starts steaming. DO NOT LET IT BOIL! Then turn the heat off, add a cover, and let it cool down to room temp.

The yarn looks interesting while it’s still wet but it dried beautifully.

I’m really pleased with the results and the blue one is my favorite. I did achieve a small amount of purple by layering blue dye over the pink dye in a few spots. If I were to do it again I would mix the pink and a blue together! Over all I got what I paid for and I can’t complain too much. I usually use Jacquard Acid dyes but this was a fun child friendly adventure.

OOOPs I Did It Again

Greetings! Earlier this week I shared my stash update. I managed to whittle my way down to 614 grams or the equivalent of just over 6 skeins of sock yarn.

So, to celebrate I took advantage of some leap day sales at Knit Picks and bought 13,000 grams of yarn. Yeah, that’s an insane amount of yarn but in my defense I only shop for yarn once a year. What I purchase is what I have to use for the year so I plan ahead I use a spreadsheet to do the math for me.

I bought enough bare yarn to knit a pair of socks or a fingering weight hat every week for the next year. I knit a lot of both for gifts so that was my first priority.

I also bought a bunch of Brava yarn to knit baby gifts and donation hats. I might make a few adult sweaters too. Time will tell!

! Major Yarn Stash Update !

Greetings! On September 18th 2019 I decided that I needed to downsize my enormous yarn stash. I wish that I would have added up how many grams of yarn that I had at this point but I didn’t. However, if I remember correctly I had over 600 skeins of yarn at this point.

1631 days later I have 614 grams or just over 6 skeins of yarn left. I figure that it will take me close to a month to use the remainder of this yarn in these scrappy blankets.

I have a new glass jar to store my scraps of yarn in. I would like to keep that situation from getting out of control again.

To celebrate my successful yarn stash downsizing I took advantage of some leap day sales at Knit Picks and bought a bunch of yarn! I will share all of that yarn after it arrives.
